Last week we met at Gaige’s, and recorded our song. It took a lot of time, considering we got sidetracked easily. Once we finally got focused, the song came together well. So far our problems are scheduling and agreeing. We are all very busy people, but we have managed quite well. Since this week is spring break we are able to final meet for a day instead of a few hours. We also have a problem on agreeing on lyrics, background music, and what we will do for our video. We have decided that the best way to solve our problems are by voting. This week we are editing the song so that it is to our perfection. We have been throwing around ideas about different background sounds. We are trying to pick background music that we like, but also background music that will catch the attention of our listeners. We want our song to be catchy and similar to the songs that are played on the radio repeatedly. We have been asking our family and close friends their opinions on different choices, and which seems to be the best. So far the people we have asked said they enjoyed listening to the most upbeat version of our song. This week we will come to a conclusion of the background music and our song will be complete. Once our song is complete we are going to start planning our music video. We are going to try and record part of the video at Gaige’s work. We want to record at his work because they have exotic cars that would really help the quality of our video. We are also thinking about recording at the school, and in english classes because Mr. Barker is our inspiration for the song. Also, I think recording during sunset and in the outdoors will help improve the video. We also want to avoid certain indoor areas because the lighting is not great. We have to decide on our wardrobe. We don’t know if we just want to wear our regular clothes or go buy new clothes. Our budget is a low amount so we have to use it wisely.

Our genius hour projects have now been going on for 5 weeks, with this being said, our group has made some very good progress when it comes to timing. As said in last weeks blog, we already have our lyrics for our song. we had also picked out a beat that we felt was catchy enough to make the song enjoyable, however we have continued to throw around some other beats that we have found recently. Carrying on our problem from last week, due to the members of our group all being friends, it is more than easy to get sidetracked and go off of topic. we feel like there is a benefit to being friends though, no one seems to be afraid to throw out ideas and opinions on different matters for our project. This week we have started recording our song, we ran into a few issues when it came to the use of certain programs but eventually we found one that was simple and did not require any sort of membership. Hopefully we will be finished recording by next Sunday, that way we finish half of the project, dead on the halfway mark for time. The plan for week seven is to go out and plan, buy our outfits, and start putting together rough drafts for our music video. We hope to finish filming by week nine, this way we have another three weeks to get our editing done for the video. Luckily, two of our group members can drive, this makes it much more easier to find time and get to the places that we need to be at in order to film or record. Over the past few weeks, we have learned a lot when it comes to scheduling, we've managed to hit our schedule for our project, but it does become very hard working around 3 different people’s schedules and plans. Due to active communication, we have gotten the hang of balancing our schedules, spring break is coming up, we all have our fingers crossed that we can pull off a whole day to put our pieces together for this project.
Last week we all met at Gaige’s house to finish our song. We finished writing the lyrics to our song on Saturday. We also have picked out our background music that we will use. We were looking for a catchy beat with rhythm. We want to attract the listener’s attention from the beginning of the song. We wanted the song to start off catchy, because people normally judge a song by the intro. The process for writing our song took numerous hours. We all had to bounce ideas off of each other. We wanted the chorus to be the best part because it will be the main part of the song that you will hear. We wanted a simple verse that would be unforgettable to the listener. We wanted the song to have a melody that would get stuck in your head, causing people to come back and listen for more. Some ideas were great and others not so much. At first we thought we could just use our previous knowledge on english, but after discussion we came to the conclusion that we need to put in more work, and research. I would say our only problem was staying on track. We are all such good friends which made it difficult to stay focused. Once we all got on task, our lyrics started to flow. When we finished the song, we started to think of song names. We all had different ideas, but we finally came to a conclusion. We want our name to be a surprise to the class at the end of our project, to drive suspense. Overall, we had a very productive weekend. We narrowed down our ideas and made the lyrics a portion of all of our personalities. We all brought something unique to the table. We wanted someone to listen to our song and think “Yep, that pretty much seems right.” This song is a small piece of each of us combined. We think you’re going to love what we’ve come up with. This project has already brought us closer as friends and we can’t wait to see how it ends.
Last week we were trying to make a schedule so that we could work together better. We have decided that our best option is to work on the project on Saturday or Sunday. When one of us is busy that weekend with work, sports, or other school work, we have decided that Friday after school would be our best option. We are all very busy people, but with dedication and planning ahead of time, we are all able to do the project well. This week we have decided that Saturday we can all meet up to work on the song. We have figured out that Gaige’s house is the best house to record and write our song. Gaige’s house is best for recording our song because his house isn’t loud, and he has all the equipment to record. He has microphones and editing software on his computer that will be very useful for recording. We have decided that Hailee’s house will be best for recording the actual music video itself. We have all agreed on this because she has the most space and family members who can help record for us. The only problem that may arise is how loud it could be. She has a lot of siblings that will make it difficult to record, so we will have to work out a time when they won’t be there. So far we have a rough draft of the lyrics to our song about Mr. Barker. We have also been bouncing around ideas about the background music. This week we will be coming to a conclusion on what the background music will be. We also will be deciding what the name of our song will be. Right now we are in debate and can not agree on the name. We believe the best idea is to pick the name by looking at the final draft of the lyrics. Once we have our final draft and background music figured out, we will start recording. We believe that we can finish the lyrics and background music this week, and we will begin recording.
Despite how smooth we expected things to run so far, they have not. Over this last week, we took time to throw around ideas, some of them being lyrics, beats, and even ideas for the music video that's in the long run. The reason things have not flown so well yet is due to our timing, having 3 group members makes for a very difficult task of matching schedules up, this being because of school, sports, work, and other activities that appear throughout our weekly lives. With that being said, we have decided to take the time to find the time, meaning that we really would like to try to specifically plan times and places in order for us to be able to produce these things for our project, rather than being able to throw around ideas, we need to find time outside of school to really put those ideas on paper. For the next coming weeks we have a few objectives, those being, 1. setting specific times, 2. pulling together a well written song or well written lyrics that have a basis so we can change them in order to match the beat if needed, 3. finding out the best way to plan upcoming times and places, figuring out who's house has more benefits to our project whether that be through having items to help, places to film, or having the genuine privacy to sit and think about upcoming steps towards making this song and video. This upcoming week for genius hour will involve more time put towards writing lyrics but also taking time to match up our schedules and find availability in order to come together as a group outside of school and meet our objectives. This way we are still on track with our weekly goals but we can also be prepared for upcoming weeks when our goals more heavily involve being together and recording and even filming. Luckily we have microphones and items that are able to be mobile so things can be taken from one house to another, allowing us to have more flexibility with our planning and goals.
